Governor Kehoe Launches Safer Missouri Initiative with Executive Orders Prioritizing Public Safety

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Governor Mike Kehoe wasted no time in prioritizing public safety, signing six executive orders Monday as his first official act in office. The orders officially launch the governor’s "Safer Missouri" initiative, a comprehensive plan designed to reduce crime, support law enforcement, and foster community partnerships.

The Safer Missouri initiative was developed in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and representatives across the state. It is the first phase of a multi-step plan, with additional measures requiring legislative action set to be unveiled during Governor Kehoe's 2025 State of the State address.

"By standing with the brave officers who protect us every day and implementing strategic, forward-thinking measures, we are working to make Missouri a safer place to live, work, and raise a family," said Governor Kehoe. "My administration will be relentless in making Missouri a place where it’s easier to be a cop than a criminal."

Governor Kehoe was joined by key leaders, including Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, Acting Director of the Missouri Department of Public Safety Mark James, and representatives from law enforcement associations such as the Missouri State Fraternal Order of Police and Missouri Sheriffs Association.

The executive orders address critical areas:

Operation Relentless Pursuit establishes anti-crime task forces across the state, with dedicated Missouri State Highway Patrol investigators and additional deputies targeting high-priority criminal activities.
The Blue Shield Program recognizes local governments for effective law enforcement and public safety efforts, providing access to state grants for safety initiatives.
A partnership with ICE under Executive Order 25-04 will train local officers to help enforce immigration laws.
Revisions to patrol salary schedules will reduce the time required for officers to reach top pay tiers from 15 years to 12.
Updates to the state's parole guidelines will address offender management and reduce recidivism.
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey praised the initiative: "Today is a bold move toward restoring law and order, backing Missouri law enforcement, and reaffirming our commitment to justice."

The governor also appointed a dedicated liaison in his office to strengthen communication between law enforcement and state resources.

The executive actions represent a significant step forward in addressing public safety across Missouri, with more initiatives to follow in the coming months.
