Amtrak Train Derails in Northern Missouri

(Mendon, MO) At least three people are dead, and several injured, after an Amtrak train struck a truck on the tracks at a crossing in northern Missouri Monday afternoon. A statement from Amtrak indicates at 12:42 p.m. Southwest Chief Train 4, traveling eastbound from Los Angeles to Chicago, with 8 cars and 2 locomotives, derailed after striking a truck that was obstructing a public crossing near the town of Mendon. There were approximately 275 passengers and 12 crew members onboard. Local authorities responded to the scene. An Amtrak Incident Response Team has been activated, and emergency personnel were sent to the scene.
