Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - A break from the extreme heat is on the way for the Parkland.

An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect for Jefferson, Ste. Genevieve, Perry and Bollinger Counties until 7 p.m. Thursday evening. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for St. Francois, Washington, Iron and Madison Counties until 7 p.m. Thursday as well. A cold front will end the threat for dangerous heat by this evening. The cold front will slowly sink south through the region Thursday, leading to scattered showers and thunderstorms, which could be strong to severe. The main threat will be damaging winds up to 60 m.p.h., particularly Thursday afternoon along and south of Interstate 70.

Thunderstorms Thursday morning will be capable of gusty winds up to around 45 m.p.h.
