Commission Revokes NexGen Silica Permit

(Ste. Genevieve County, MO) Officials with the Missouri Mining Commission are rescinding the permit for the NexGenSilica Mine in Ste. Genevieve County. The permit had been issued by the Department of Natural Resources. The decision to pull the permit was made after deficiencies were found with NexGen's application. The commission voted 4 to 1 to rescind the permit. NexGen Silica   was to have begun mining materials on 249 acres of land near Hawn State Park. Residents near the proposed mine area had formed a group, Operartion Sand, in opposition to the mine. The state is required to issue a final written decision by January 17th. NexGen officials may appeal the decision.
