Cooling Centers Available in Farmington for Latest Heat Wave

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - Due to the extreme heat and humidity, the City of Farmington has opened cooling centers during the Heat Advisory.

The combination of high humidity, high temperatures, and light winds will produce dangerous heat index values. Citizens can get relief from the extreme heat and humidity, by visiting any city building that is accessible to the public during normal business hours.  

Cooling Centers will be available at the following locations:
• Farmington City Hall, 110 W Columbia St, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
• Farmington Police Station, 310 Ste Genevieve Ave, 24/7
• Farmington Fire Station, 222 E Columbia St, 24/7
• Farmington City Light & Water/Development Services Office, 101 S Jefferson St,
between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
• Farmington Civic Center, 2 Black Knight Drive, between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Farmington Emergency Management Director Joshua McAtee would like to remind residents to use caution during the high temperatures. Limit outdoor activity if possible. Drink plenty of water and wear light weight, loose-fitting clothing. Schedule outdoor activities in the early morning or evening. Also remember to never leave people or pets in a vehicle, and monitor those at risk, such as children, the elderly, and people with chronic health conditions.
