Double-Homicide Investigation with Juvenile Victims

Festus, Mo. (KFMO) - The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department is investigating a double-homicide in Festus.

According to the sheriff's department, two juveniles, under the age of 10, were found dead Tuesday morning. One juvenile was found fatally shot inside a car, outside of the Festus Police Department, at around 10:30 a.m. The other juvenile’s body was found south of Festus, at Timber Creek Resort, around the same time. Authorities beleive that this juvenile died of a drowning.

They also believe that the child found in the car had been shot at another location.A firearm was recovered in the vehicle, however details about the firearm have not been released. 

A female suspect is in custody. It is believed to be the victim's mother. Sheriff Dave Marshak said that the suspect went in to the police department to turn herself in.  He said that the suspect's clothes were wet when she arrived.

Officers responded to the scene, based on the information the suspect provided.

Sheriff Marshak said that officers did attempt life saving measure with both junveniles. 

At this time, authorities are attempting to locate another child. The names of the supect and victims have not been released at this time.
