St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Eight people, including four juveniles, were injured in a three-vehicle crash on Route K near Saffell Road in St. Francois County on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crash Report, the crash occurred at 3:20 p.m. on September 7. A 2016 Volkswagen Jetta attempted to overtake another vehicle on a blind curve, traveling into the path of a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier. The Volkswagen struck the front of the Chevrolet, causing it to rotate into the westbound lane, where it collided with a 2018 Dodge Challenger.
Four occupants of the Volkswagen, all male juveniles from Ottumwa, Iowa, were injured. A 16-year-old, a 17-year-old, and an infant were taken to Parkland Health Center in Bonne Terre with minor injuries. Another 17-year-old was airlifted by Air EVAC 8 to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 29-year-old Andrew J. Mercer of Bonne Terre, was transported to Mercy Hospital South with serious injuries.
The driver of the Dodge, 18-year-old Dylan M. Fleetwood of Ballwin, Missouri, along with two passengers, 18-year-old Robert R. Simmons of Ballwin and 19-year-old Evan M. Stockton of Chesterfield, Missouri, suffered minor injuries. Fleetwood was taken to Mercy Hospital South, while Simmons and Stockton were transported to Parkland Health Center in Farmington.
According to the Highway Patrol, everyone involved in the crash was wearing a safety device at the time.
