St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A single-vehicle crash on Highway 221 near Henrich Road in St. Francois County left a 73-year-old man with serious injuries Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 12:10 p.m. when the driver of a 2007 Toyota Yaris was traveling northbound. The vehicle was reportedly going too fast for the wet road conditions, causing the driver to lose control while navigating a curve. The car veered off the west side of the roadway, striking a fence and a tree.
The driver, a Middlebrook resident, was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. He sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis for treatment.
The vehicle suffered extensive damage and was towed from the scene.
