Farmington Reminds Residents of Fireworks Regulations Ahead of Independence Day

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - As Independence Day approaches, the City of Farmington is reminding residents that shooting off fireworks within city limits is illegal, with the exception of small Division 1.4G fireworks like poppers, snappers, and smoke devices.

These must still conform to all local, state, and federal regulations. All other types of fireworks are prohibited unless used in organized public exhibitions that have received approval from the Farmington Fire Chief.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) estimates that each year, 8,500 people in the United States are treated in emergency departments for fireworks-related injuries. Alarmingly, 70%-75% of these injuries occur during the 30-day period surrounding the July 4th holiday.

The Farmington Police Department is encouraging residents to attend professional fireworks displays this Independence Day. One notable event, Fireworks Over Farmington, will begin at dusk, approximately 9:15 p.m., on Thursday, July 4th at Engler Park.

For more information on the city ordinance regarding fireworks, residents can contact Farmington City Hall at 573-756-1701 or visit farmington-mo.gov/municipal-code.
