Fatal Head-On Collision Claims One Life in Washington County

Washington Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A tragic accident on Highway 21 near Gildea Road in Washington County, claimed the life of a Caledonia woman and left a male juvenile seriously injured Thursday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 7:38 a.m. when 73-year-old Charlette A. Schloemer, was driving an SUV northbound, attempted to pass another vehicle. Schloemer’s vehicle collided head-on with a southbound truck driven by a 17-year-old juvenile from Irondale. The impact resulted in both vehicles being totaled.

Despite wearing a seat belt, Schloemer was pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained serious injuries and was transported to St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
