Fire Update: Park Hills Blaze Contained, No Injuries Reported

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - An early morning house fire in Park Hills has left two families displaced but fortunately caused no injuries.

According to the City of Park Hills, at 7:36 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, the Park Hills Fire Department was dispatched to a residential house fire on the 500 block of 6th Street. Upon arrival, firefighters found that one house was fully engulfed in flames, with the neighboring house also catching fire. Due to the intensity of the blaze, a second alarm was immediately requested by the first responders, followed by third and fourth alarms for additional manpower.

The Farmington Fire Department arrived at 7:50 a.m., with Park Hills arriving just one minute later. The fire was initially knocked down from the exterior, allowing crews to enter both homes and extinguish the flames. Fortunately, both homes were unoccupied at the time of the fire. Police assisted in forcibly entering the homes to safely remove animals. The fire was brought under control within an hour, and thankfully, no injuries were reported. The Red Cross is providing assistance to the families affected by the fire.

The Missouri Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire. Crews remained on the scene for several hours to manage hot spots and assist with cleanup efforts.

The City of Park Hills acknowledged the donations of food and water made by Park Hills Sonic Drive-In and Park Hills Save-A-Lot to support emergency crews. Esther United Methodist Church also opened its doors as a cooling station, and several members of the public brought ice and water to aid the firefighters on site.

The Park Hills Fire Department received assistance from numerous departments, including the Farmington Missouri Fire Department, Desloge Volunteer Fire Department, Leadwood Fire Protection District, Doe Run Fire Protection District, Wolf Creek Fire Protection District, Big River Fire Protection, DeSoto Rural Fire Protection District, Jefferson R-7 Fire Protection District, Festus Fire Department, and Hematite Fire Protection District. In total, 40 firefighters worked together to control the two-structure fire.
