(St. Francois County, MO) As Independence Day approaches, fireworks celebrations are beginning even though the drought in Missouri continues. The dry ground provides a perfect source for flames to spread. A meteorologist with the National Weather Service in St. Louis, Alex Elmore, stresses the importance of using proper safety procedures when setting off fireworks this holiday weekend.

Elmore adds it is important to stay up to date on local municipal ordinances including burn bans that may potentially be enacted this weekend.
