Fredericktown Police Warn Public of Rising Scam Attempts

Fredericktown, Mo. (KFMO) - Scams are becoming more frequent and increasingly convincing, prompting a warning from the Fredericktown Police Department for residents to stay alert and informed.

The Fredericktown Police Department is alerting the public to a rise in scam activity targeting residents with a variety of deceptive tactics.

According to officials, several common scams have been reported. In one scheme, individuals receive calls claiming they have missed a court date and must pay immediately or face arrest. Another involves callers insisting a person has an active warrant and must travel to a specific location while staying on the phone.

Police also warn of scams where callers claim a loved one is in jail and urgently needs money, as well as text messages or emails stating recipients owe unpaid tolls or tickets and must click a link to resolve the issue.

Authorities emphasize that the Fredericktown Police Department does not provide warrant information over the phone or demand payment in this manner.

Residents are strongly advised not to click on unknown links or provide personal or financial information to unsolicited callers or messages. Officials say if something feels suspicious, trust your instincts and verify the information by contacting local agencies directly or visiting in person when possible.

Anyone with concerns or questions is encouraged to contact the Fredericktown Police Department at 573-783-3660 for assistance.
