Gallaher Resigns as St. Francois County Presiding Commissioner

St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - St. Francois County Presiding Commissioner Harold Gallaher has submitted his letter of resignation, effective September 1, 2026, ending more than 11 years of service in the county's top elected administrative position.

Gallaher's resignation was formally accepted by the St. Francois County Commission during Tuesday's meeting. His letter cited retirement as the reason for his resignation.

To the St Francois County Clerk:

I'd like to thank the citizens of St. Francois County for trusting me to be the County Commissioner for three consecutive terms. During this time, I have had the pleasure of working alongside dedicated public servants, employees and community leaders to make our community better.

As you know, I chose to withdraw my candidacy for a potential fourth term. After much prayer, I am writing this letter to inform you of my impending retirement. My last day in office will be September 1, 2026.

I believe this is the right time to step aside. As a team, the Commissioners' office has accomplished so much over recent years. I am excited to see what this office does to continue the success.

Harold D. Gallaher

District Two Commissioner David Kater explained the next steps for the county following Gallaher's resignation.

St. Francois County Auditor Louie Seiberlich recently spoke on Gallaher's accomplishments and his time serving as presiding commissioner.

Gallaher began serving as St. Francois County Presiding Commissioner in January 2015. His resignation marks the end of more than a decade in the position.

Additional details about the process of filling the presiding commissioner position are expected to come from the St. Francois County Commission.
