Heat Warning Continues

(St. Louis, MO) The excessive heat warning from the National Weather Service is set to expire at 8 o'clock tonight. With a predicted high temperature of 95 expected in the Parkland the heat index should reach 105. The risks associated with a heat related illness increase dramatically during extremely high heat and humidity. You're urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Don't leave young children and pets unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to take place during the early morning or evening hours. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location and get medical attention immediately.
