Hillsboro Man Charged with Stealing $3,300 in Lottery Tickets from Employer

Jeffeson Co., Mo (KFMO) - A Hillsboro man is facing charges after allegedly stealing $3,300 in lottery tickets from his employer and cashing out the winnings.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged 25-year-old Joshua K. Markhart with two felony counts of stealing following an investigation into the incidents.

According to court documents, Markhart is accused of stealing tickets during overnight shifts on December 9 and December 22 of last year. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Markhart taking various lottery tickets without paying for them and removing cash from the register. Court documents reveal that Markhart failed to pay for a total of $3,375 in lottery tickets, which yielded $2,452 in winnings.

The employer affected by the theft has not been disclosed.

Markhart is scheduled for a criminal summons hearing on October 28, 2024.
