Labor Day Traffic Statistics

(Jefferson City, MO) Seven people are dead after various accidents around the state including five in traffic crashes, one person in a boating crash, and another who drowned during the Labor Day weekend. Patrol Troopers investigated four of the traffic fatalities while the Springfield Police Department investigated one. The 2022 counting period for the Labor Day holiday was from 6 p.m., Friday, September 2, through 11:59 p.m., Monday, September 5. Patrol officials report during their enforcement activity over the weekend preliminary statistics show they investigated 276 vehicle crashes with 97 injuries and 4 fatalities. There were 113 DWI arrests and 55 drug arrests. On the lakes and rivers in the state members of the Water Patrol investigated 7 boating crashes, with 3 injuries and 1 fatality. There were 5 boating while intoxicated citations and 8 drug arrests with 1 drowning. Last year, during the 2021 Labor Day weekend, Troopers worked 318 traffic crashes, including 121 injuries and six of the 11 fatalities recorded. Troopers made 109 arrests for driving while intoxicated last year. None of this year's fatalities were in the Parkland area.
