Millersville Couple Charged With Murder Of Jessi Wilfong

(Cape Girardeau County, MO) The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney's Office are filing additional charges to two individuals involved in the murder of 20 year old, Jessi Wilfong of Marquand. A Millersville couple, 48 year old Lawrence Schanda and 59 year old Teresa Baumgartner are facing charges of Murder in the First Degree, Armed Criminal Action, and Tampering With Physical Evidence in a Felony Investigation on Friday, July 1st. On Saturday, June 18th Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department received information which led deputies to a location in close proximity to a previously searched residence. The investigation revealed the site of a recently dug portion of ground inside a barn structure where the remains of Wilfong were buried. An autopsy performed Monday, June 27th determined the cause of death was a homicide. It is believed Schanda and Baumgartner acted together to cause the death of Wilfong and then took significant steps to conceal her body in an effort to hamper the investigation. The Honorable Frank E. Miller issued warrants for the arrest of Schanda and Baumgartner for the charges and set a $5 million cash only bond.
