Officer Involved Shooting Suspect Deceased, Identified

Bonne Terre, Mo. (KFMO) - Authorities are continuing their investigation into the officer involved shooting on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

According to the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department, at approximately 2:25 p.m., a deputy with the sheriff’s department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on an older model Ford passenger vehicle in the area of southbound U.S. Highway 67 and the Old Orchard Road exit, south of Bonne Terre. The Ford passenger car immediately failed to yield to the deputy’s lights and sirens and the deputy advised St. Francois County Joint Communications of the “failure to yield”. The suspect's vehicle exited southbound U.S. Highway 67 at Old Orchard and proceeded to the northbound entrance ramp where it stopped, briefly.

After the Deputy exited his vehicle, the suspect then reversed into the lighted patrol car, causing the rear of the vehicle to collide with the front of the patrol vehicle. The pursuing deputy radioed dispatch that the suspect was ramming his patrol vehicle as the suspect's vehicle reversed into the patrol vehicle a second time. While the suspect continued to ignore commands from the Deputy, the suspect again reversed his vehicle attempting to strike the deputy, the deputy then discharged his firearm, striking the suspect.

Upon the arrival of assisting officers, lifesaving measures were performed on the suspect. St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department command staff requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control investigate the officer involved shooting. The suspect was transported by St. Francois County EMS to Mercy Jefferson and later to St. Louis where he succumbed to his injuries.

Deputies and Troopers were able to identify the now deceased suspect as 58-year-old Timothy J. King of Moscow Mills, Missouri, formerly of Desloge.
