Perryville School Threats Suspect

(Perryville, MO) A juvenile suspect is in the custody of authorities after admitting to making phone calls concerning false threats against the Perryville Middle school and High school. Perryville police received a phone call January 11th about 6:15 am. The male caller, who said he was a student, stated a student was threatening to place an incendiary device in the school. Police swept the schools and determined there was no device. They also received a tip that a transfer student to the school was involved in what's called swatting. Swatting is the practice of reporting a false threat to create a large police response to an emergency situation that doesn't exist. After getting the information authorities identified the juvenile suspect. He was questioned and reportedly admitted to making the calls. Police continue to search and monitor the campus prior to the return of students Tuesday. The Juvenile Prosecutor will determine any charges to be filed.
