Power Restoration Continues for City of Fredericktown Customers

Fredericktown, Mo. (KFMO) - Fredericktown's city electric system continues restoration efforts following a peak outage that affected approximately 1,800 customers. As of the latest update, city crews have successfully restored power to all but 340 customers. Mutual aid power crews arrived this morning to assist with the ongoing restoration efforts.

City officials remind residents to practice proper generator use, especially to prevent backfeeding electricity into the city’s power grid, which poses a severe safety hazard to crews and the community.

To support those affected, the Madison County Health Department has opened a warming center arranged by the Madison County Emergency Management Agency. While the shelter is open, it does not provide food or medical services.

Residents are urged to remain cautious around low-hanging or downed power lines, as they are likely energized. Any downed limbs in contact with power lines should also be avoided. For those whose home electrical service masts were damaged in the storm, officials recommend turning off the main breaker to mitigate the risk of damage to internal wiring.

Additionally, residents are advised to use heating equipment safely and stay alert to the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning during this period.
