Progress in the Parkland: Restoring the Iron County Courthouse

Ironton, Mo. (KFMO) - The Iron County Courthouse, a historic landmark built in 1860 during the Civil War era, is undergoing a major restoration.

This project, which began in 2020, is a significant undertaking for the county, preserving an important piece of local history. County Commissioner Jim Scaggs has been closely involved with the efforts to bring new life to the courthouse. He explains that the interior, especially the courtroom, presented a unique set of challenges.

With the interior renovations now complete, attention has shifted to the exterior. Work on the outside of the courthouse began in August, focusing on enhancing the building's structure and appearance while maintaining its historic integrity.

As progress continues, Commissioner Scaggs anticipates that the project will be fully completed by early October, restoring the courthouse to its former glory.

This restoration marks a new chapter for the courthouse, blending preservation of history with improvements that will benefit the community for years to come.
