Sales Tax Climbs in St. Francois County

(Farmington, MO) The latest sales tax figures for St. Francois County show the figure is up 14.2 % over the same period last year. The figures were discussed at Tuesday's St. Francois County Commission meeting. The Presiding Commissioner of the county, Harold Gallaher, says if the sales tax continues to climb, residents in the county could see a zero property tax rate, if a tax roll back were to be triggered by the increased tax revenue.

Gallaher explains only 32% of the sales tax revenue comes from residents and 68% comes from people visiting St. Francois County. In other business at the St. FRancois County Commission meeting the purchase of a new sound system for the Division 2 Courtroom was approved to replace the out of date system currently used.
