Six Confirmed Tornadoes Touch Down

(Park Hills, MO) The National Weather Service Survey Teams have confirmed that at least six tornadoes touched down Wednesday night in Reynolds, Iron and Madison Counties. 

According to the survey report, during Wednesday evening, a quasi-linear convective system developed in south-central Missouri and tracked east into southeast Missouri. As it did, several tornadoes developed on the leading edge of the line, causing mostly EF1 damage across far eastern Reynolds, Iron, and western Madison Counties. 

The first tornado began at 8:44 p.m., 6 miles east/southeast of Redford, in Reynolds County. This tornado was on the ground for approximately 14 minutes and ended 4 miles west of Saco, in Madison County. It had a path of 14.07 miles, was 150 yards wide, and had an estimated peak wind of 93 m.p.h. This tornado was rated an EF1.

The next tornado began at 8:49 p.m., 1 mile west of Annapolis, in Iron County. This tornado was on the ground for approximately 2 minutes and ended 2 miles east/northeast of Annapolis. It had a path of 2.56 miles, was 250 yards wide, and had an estimated peak wind of 110 m.p.h. This tornado was rated an EF1. 

A third tornado began at 8:50 p.m., 2 miles southeast of Annapolis, in Iron County. This tornado was on the ground for approximately 1 minute. It had a path of 0.59 miles, was 75 yards wide, and had an estimated peak wind of 85 m.p.h. This tornado was rated an EF0. 

Another tornado began at 8:53 p.m., in Vulcan, in Iron County. This tornado was on the ground for approximately 3 minutes. It had a path of 1.67 miles, was 150 yards wide, and had an estimated peak wind of 93 m.p.h. This tornado was rated an EF1. 

A fifth tornado began at 9:01 p.m. in Arcadia, in Iron County. This tornado was on the ground for approximately 5 minutes and ended 5 miles west of Catherines Place, in Madison County. It had a path of 12.01 miles, was 150 yards wide, and had an estimated peak wind of 94 m.p.h. This tornado was rates an EF1. 

The last tornado began at 9:01 p.m. 1 mile south of Arcadia, in Iron County. This tornado was on the ground for approximately 2 minutes and ended 2 miles west/southwest of Roselle, in Iron County. It had a path of 4.08 miles, was 100 yards wide, and had an estimated peak wind of 93 m.p.h. This tornado was rated an EF1. 

Damage from these tornadoes included trees, powerlines, and extensive damage to South Iron School. There were no injuries or fatalities reported in any of these tornadoes. 

As of now, the information in the report is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the events. The National Weather Service says they will reassess plans for additional surveys on Friday.
