The August Primary Elections

(St. Francois County, MO) The primary elections are coming up August 2nd and there are several contested races on the Republican ballot. On the national level there are 21 candidates for the seat being left open by the retirement of Missouri United States Senator, Roy Blunt. In the race for Congressman of the Eighth District incumbent Jason Smith will run against challenger Jacob Turner. In St. Francois County government races Current Judge of the 24th Circuit, Division IV, Pat King is facing Julie McCarver. For St. Francois County Circuit Clerk voters will choose between Kristina Bone and Elaine Easter. For Prosecuting Attorney incumbent Melissa Gilliam faces Blake Dudley. There are 3 candidates for St. Francois County Township Committeeman including Ben Bradley, Chuck Dodson, and Kyle Smith. Since no Democrats filed for any of those positions, whoever wins the seat in the primary automatically wins the November election as well because there is no one to run against.

On the Democratic ticket the race for Missouri United States Senator generated the only interest. There are 11 candidates running for the chance to face off against a republican challenger in November. The Republican and Democratic ballots will both feature the Proposition P issue which is the internet sales tax. The funds generated would be largely earmarked for the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department to help increase the amount of deputies for citizen safety and increase salaries to help with Deputy retention.
