The Great Central U.S. ShakeOut Drill in Missouri

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Missourians will take part in the 2024 Great Central U.S. ShakeOut Earthquake Drill today at 10:17 a.m.

Participants across the state will practice the “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” technique to prepare for a potential earthquake. Missouri sits in the New Madrid Seismic Zone, one of the most active earthquake regions in the country.

Governor Mike Parson reminds residents that preparedness can save lives, encouraging them to take the drill seriously. Emergency officials say this annual event is a good time to review earthquake plans and secure homes and workplaces.
