Two Washington County Shootings One Dead

(Potosi, Mo) - Missouri State Highway Patrol Investigators are wrapping up their investigation of an officer involved shooting in Washington County involving Sheriff's Deputies and one suspect who suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

The incident was one of two shootings in the county last Friday evening. In the officer involved case, reports show deputies were dispatched to the 15,000 block of Highway 21 for a possible suicide. When they arrived a woman who lived in the home told them the male subject hadn't committed suicide but was in the bedroom asleep.

When deputies spoke with the subject they had observed blood in the bathroom. The subject had both his hands under a blanket and when asked to show his hands he refused and talked about the deputies dying, it was then he pulled a pistol out from under the blanket and then a shotgun.

It's alleged the male suspect pointed the two weapons at the two deputies and said they wouldn't leave the home alive. That's when one of the deputies shot the suspect. Washington County Ambulance personnel, who had been stationed across the street then entered the residence.

Sheriff Jacobsen says he won't release any further information including the names  of those involved, until after the Highway Patrol Investigation is complete.

In the second shooting Friday evening in Washington County Deputies were advised a shooting had occurred somewhere on Highway 185 and the victim was driving himself to the Washington County Memorial Hospital in Potosi.

Deputies then responded to the hospital, gathered more information and then went to the 10,200 block of Lodgestone Lane. When they arrived the suspect, who had been identified by the victim as Jeffery Onan, was standing outside the residence.

He ran around the building when he saw deputies and then returned moments later with his hands up. He was taken into custody. The victim was stabelized and the transported to a St. Louis Hospital in serious condition.

Onan has been charged with 2 counts of assault in the 1st degree, two counts of armed criminal action, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
