Missouri State Highway Patrol Responds to Thousands of Incidents Over Winter Weather Period

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) reported a significant number of calls for service during a period of challenging winter weather conditions from noon on Saturday, January 4 to 3 p.m. on Monday, January 6.

Across the state, troopers responded to 3,134 calls for service, assisting motorists and managing incidents caused by hazardous road conditions. Among the incidents, MSHP aided 1,788 stranded motorists whose vehicles became disabled or stuck due to icy or snow-covered roads.

Troopers also handled 436 traffic crashes during this timeframe. These collisions resulted in 38 injuries and, tragically, one fatality.

Authorities remind residents to exercise caution during winter weather events, emphasizing the importance of reducing speeds, maintaining safe following distances, and staying home unless travel is essential.

MSHP continues to urge Missourians to monitor weather conditions and prepare vehicles for safe travel.
