St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Officials with the Big River Fire Department are asking voters to approve moving the group from a Department to a Fire Protection District Status on the April 8, 2025 ballot.
The Fire Chief for the department, David Pratte, says if approved the department would be able to upgrade their efforts with new equipment for the safety of citizens and fire fighters.
Pratte adds that a $0.30 per $100 assessed valuation tax would be enacted and they would do away with fire tags. Pratte also says having the tax would reduce the rate most people pay for fire protection from Big River. The measure would also create a board of directors for Big River Fire.
