Bonne Terre Man Arrested after Pursuit

(Bonne Terre, MO) A Bonne Terre man, Joseph P. Lewis, is facing charges of resisting arrest, tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree, and assault in the 3rd degree after he fled from police last Thursday. Information on the St. Francois County Sheriff's Facebook page indicates Terre Du Lac Police attempted a traffic stop on Lewis while he was riding a stolen motorcycle. During the pursuit on Highway 47, which was headed towards Bonne Terre, Lewis layed the bike down and tried to flee on foot. Additional deputies joined the pursuit and captured Lewis with the help of a canine unit. During the post pursuit investigation, Deputies recovered a .22 caliber revolver and they learned the motorcycle was stolen from Desloge approximately 2 weeks prior to its recovery. Deputies noticed the catalytic converter from the motorcycle had been cut away. Additionally, Deputies recovered a sawzall, which it's believed was used to cut the converter from the motorcycle. Lewis was taken to the St. Francois County Detention Center where Deputies recovered suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia from the suspect. Additional charges are likely for Lewis.
