Court Stops NexGen from Mining

(Ste. Genevieve County, MO) The permit allowing NexGen Silica to mine sand in Ste. Genevieve County has been pulled by officials with the Missouri Court of Appeals. The court agreed with regulators from the Missouri Mining Commission who said NexGen's application to mine 250 acres near Highway 32 was incomplete. Those who lived near the mine area were against allowing NexGen to mine sand fearing the operation would destroy land near Hawn State Park and also pollute the areas water systems. It's unclear whether or not NexGen leaders will reapply for a surface mining permit.
