Domestic Dispute Leads to Shooting

Crawford Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The Crawford County Sheriff's Office is investigating a domestic dispute, that led to a shooting.

According to the sheriff's office, in the evening hours of August 4, 2024, deputies responded to the 200 block of Butts Rd., in Steelville for a report of a shooting. Deputies discovered that a male victim had been shot inside a vehicle in an alleged domestic dispute. The victim was transported by a medical helicopter with critical life-threatening injuries.

Members of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. 39-year-old Monique N. Byrd, of O'Fallon, Il. was arrested on scene, and transported to the Crawford County Sheriff's Office. Members of CID later interviewed Byrd, before she was booked into the Crawford County Adult Detention Facility.

The next day, a warrant was issued for Byrd. She has been charged with Domestic Assault 1st Degree-Class A Felony, Armed Criminal Action-Unclassified Felony, Unlawful Use of a Weapon-Class E Felony.

Byrd was given a $150,000 cash/surety bond for those charges.
