Excessive Heat Warning This Week

(St. Louis, MO) With the National Weather Service issuing an excessive heat warning 11 pm Thursday night, officials are urging you to take certain precautions in the heat. Dangerously hot conditions, with heat index values nearly as high as 110 degrees, will exist at times this week in the Parkland. This can cause deadly situations in the heat. Remember to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and in an air conditioned room.  Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles and take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. Try to reschedule strenuous activities for the early morning or evening hours.  Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible and know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. For work outdoors schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. If you see anyone overcome by heat move them to a cool and shaded location and call for medical assistance.
