Belleview, Mo. (KFMO) - A fire broke out at the First Baptist Church in Belleview Monday night, causing significant damage to the historic structure.
The Pilot Knob Fire Protection District received the call at 9:38 p.m. and was on the scene by 9:47 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames emanating from the church steeple and spreading into the attic.
Crews began interior fire suppression efforts, which were bolstered by automatic aid companies from surrounding fire departments. It took approximately 90 minutes to bring the fire under control.
The Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office was called in to investigate the cause due to the nature of the building. Officials have determined the fire to be accidental, with no foul play suspected.
Although the blaze was contained, the church sustained significant smoke and water damage.
Fire departments from Belgrade, Bismarck, Caledonia, Doe Run, Farmington, Ironton, Potosi, and Wolf Creek provided critical assistance. The Iron County Ambulance District and Iron County Sheriff’s Office also supported the response effort.
No injuries were reported.
