Firefighters Battle Residential Blaze in De Soto

De Soto, Mo. (KFMO) - Fire crews responded to a first-alarm residential fire at the intersection of West Mineral St. and Fifth St. in De Soto on Friday evening, February 14.

Jefferson County 9-1-1 dispatched units to assist the De Soto Fire Department shortly after 5 p.m. after reports of smoke coming from a residence. An off-duty firefighter arrived on the scene at 5:11 p.m., confirming a working fire at a single-story, wood-framed home. Crews arrived shortly after, deploying multiple handlines for an interior fire attack. The fire was brought under control by 6:08 p.m. Due to the home’s older construction and multiple void spaces, extensive overhaul and salvage operations were required. Crews worked tirelessly to locate and extinguish remaining hot spots. Three additional engine companies were called in to provide fresh manpower for the operation.

Several mutual aid agencies assisted in battling the fire, while other departments moved up to cover the district during the response. Authorities have not released information on the cause of the fire or any potential injuries at this time.
