Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Missouri Governor Mike Parson has concluded his administration’s review of clemency petitions, granting 16 pardons and approving nine commutations. This marks the completion of all pending clemency cases under his leadership.
The Governor’s office announced that official documents have been filed with the appropriate agencies and sent to the individuals involved. Among those granted clemency are Randall Breshears, Erica Hansbrough, and Celia Newsom, who received a posthumous pardon.
Nine individuals also received commutations, including Vince Carlton, Patricia Prewitt, and Paige Spears. Governor Parson’s decision denies 23 other clemency petitions, effectively clearing the backlog of over 3,500 cases he inherited when he took office.
“Our priority has been to provide answers and closure to these individuals, whether approved or denied,” Parson stated. In total, the Governor’s office has processed nearly 4,000 clemency petitions during his tenure, addressing cases that spanned decades.
