Jefferson County Crime Stats Show Decline in Most Categories

Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has released preliminary crime statistics for 2024, revealing reductions in most major crime categories.

Sheriff Dave Marshak emphasized that while some violent incidents gained regional attention, Jefferson County remains one of the safest counties in the region.

“While we didn’t escape some violent incidents that garnered regional attention in 2024, the reality is that Jefferson County continues to be one of the safest counties in the region and a great place to raise a family,” Marshak stated.

The most concerning statistic was the rise in homicides, increasing from one in 2023 to seven in 2024. However, the Sheriff’s Office reported a near 100% clearance rate for violent crimes. Other crime categories saw notable declines:

Rape: 24.24% decrease (33 in 2023 to 25 in 2024)
Robbery: 15.38% decrease (13 to 11)
Assaults: 1.27% decrease (862 to 851)
Domestic Violence: 4.7% decrease (1,119 to 1,066)
Burglary: 16.77% decrease (310 to 258)
Larceny: 7.7% decrease (980 to 904)
Vehicle Theft: 13.95% decrease (258 to 222)
Arson cases remained unchanged at 12.
