(Bonne Terre, MO) Governor Mike Parsons confirms the execution of Kevin Johnson will be carried out Tuesday. A press release from the Governor's office indicates Johnson was convicted of ambushing and shooting Kirkwood Police Sergeant Bill McEntee while he responded to a call in Johnson's neighborhood in 2005. Even though Sergeant McEntee survived the first five shots, Johnson was convicted of approaching Sergeant McEntee and executing him with two more shots to the head while he was crawling on his hands and knees out of his wrecked squad car. Court records also show Johnson killed McEntee in a fit of rage over his brother's death which he blamed on police. The release also states there is not and never has been any doubt about Johnson's guilt. Nor has Johnson's conviction or sentence ever been reversed on appeal. His case has been reviewed in the state trial court, Missouri Supreme Court, federal district court, Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and United States Supreme Court. McEntee was a 19 year veteran of the force. He left behind a wife and three children. Johnson will be executed at 6 pm today at the Eastern Reception Diagnostic and Correctional Center at Bonne Terre.
