Keenan Breaks Into Substation

(St. Louis, MO) An Iron County man, 62 year old Marion L. Keenan, is set for a detention hearing May 23rd and a preliminary hearing June 10th, in St. Louis County Court, after he allegedly broke into an Ameren substation on Chippewa Street in St. Louis.

The break in caused 2,500 customers to lose power after the site was broken into. Reports indicate police found Keenan near the substation, in a van, with 35 feet of copper wiring,  allegedly stolen from the substation.

He's facing charges of tamerping with the service of a utility or institution, burglary, property damage, stealing items with a vaule of $750 - or more, and possession of burglary tools.

Police say Keenan ignored signs reading high voltage and danger. Fencing along the property was cut and there was damage to the lines that deliver electricity.

The damage to the substation is estimated to be about $100,000.
