Last Minute Turkey Thaw

(Park Hills, MO) If you haven't started thawing your turkey by now, for Thursday's Thanksgiving meal, there's a safe way you can get your bird ready in time. An Environmental Health Specialist with the St. Francois County Health Center, John Wiseman, says you're going to need a cooler and some tap water.

Wiseman says the best way to thaw a bird is in the refrigerator. He adds you should never leave it on the kitchen counter overnight. This can lead to botulism forming on the outside of the turkey which is a serious health threat.
