Major Winter Storm Taking Shape in the Parkland, Winter Storm Watch Issued

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - A major winter storm is set to impact the Parkland this week, with a Winter Storm Watch in effect from 3 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday for St. Francois, Iron, Jefferson, Madison, Ste. Genevieve, and Washington Counties.

Snowfall & Travel Impact
The latest forecasts predict between 7 and 13 inches of snow, with some areas possibly seeing even higher totals. Travel conditions will deteriorate rapidly once the snow begins, making roadways hazardous. Unlike other winter storms, this system will bring only snow, with no sleet or freezing rain expected.

Snowfall is expected to start between 6 a.m. and noon on Tuesday and continue through early Wednesday morning, tapering off around 6 a.m. Northeast winds gusting up to 15-20 mph may cause drifting and localized blowing snow, further impacting travel.

Bitter Cold to Follow
Once the snow moves out, dangerously cold air will settle in. High temperatures from Tuesday through Thursday will only reach the upper teens to near 20 degrees. Overnight lows will be 7 degrees Tuesday night, -2 degrees Wednesday night, and 2 degrees Thursday night. Wind chills may drop to dangerous levels, especially on Tuesday when winds will be strongest.

Residents should prepare for treacherous travel, extreme cold, and potential power outages. Stay tuned to KFMO B104 News for the latest updates.
