More Details on Drowning at Farmington

(Farmington, MO) Officials with the Farmington Fire Department and the City's Police Department are releasing more information in regards to the drowning that took place at Giessing Lake in Engler Park Thursday evening. According to the news release a 17 year old teen male juvenile had gone under the surface of the lake around 6:35 and had not resurfaced. witnesses told Police and Fire crews they observed a group of boys moving towards the lake and a short time later screams for help were heard. One white male was removed from the water and administered first aid. Corporal Jesse Boyer then entered the water in an attempt to locate the drowning victim. Due to the heavy amount of vegetation under the surface of the water Officers had to discontinue the search.  The 17 year old victim was later located by the fire department and removed from the water. He was transferred to a waiting ambulance crew but was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into what caused the incident is being handled by officers with the Farmington Police Department with the assistance of St. Francois County Coroner Jason Coplin.
