Senate passes bill to stop opportunistic COVID-19 lawsuits 

A bill intended to protect Missouri employers from COVID-19 exposure lawsuits has been passed by the Missouri Senate. The bill now moves to the Missouri House of Representatives. Senate Bill 51 would stop lawsuits targeting businesses over alleged exposure to COVID-19.
Since March, more than 1,000 COVID-19 lawsuits have been filed against employers across the nation. In response, many states — including all but one of Missouri’s neighboring states — have enacted some form of legislative protection against these lawsuits. 
In a press release, Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry president and CEO Daniel Mehan thanked the Missouri Senate for prioritizing the issue and passing the legislation, and urged lawmakers to work together to push the bill to Governor Parson’s desk.
