Several Issues to Decide in April Elections

(St. Francois County, MO) St. Francois County voters are set to decide the fate of several tax increases during the April general elections. Voters in the county will be asked to approve a local use tax. This tax would cover certain internet sales and is designed to level the playing field between local businesses, who collect sales tax, and internet companies, many of whom do not. In Park Hills Proposition Swim, a bond issue designed to construct a new swimming and municipal aquatic center, is on the ballot. Bonne Terre and Leadwood both have a 1% sales tax for voters to decide with the funds going to public safety if approved. Leadington has a 1/2 of 1% sales tax on the ballot. Iron Mountain Lake officials are asking voters to approve a .10 per $100 assessed valuation property tax for public parks in the town. In the Bismarck Fire Protection District voters will decide the fate of a property tax of .30 per $100 assessed valuation for funds to support the district and Bismarck voters will look at the issue of providing a Collector for the city. Remember to tune in AM 1240, KFMO, for election night coverage after the polls close Tuesday night April 5th.
