Severe Weather Threat Possible

(St. Louis, MO) Spring time storms are likely to pop up Tuesday afternoon, with some being severe. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our area in a 'Slight Risk' of severe weather for this afternoon and evening. National Weather Service Meteorologist Mark Britt says the storms are likely to move in this afternoon and could be severe.

Britt says the highest threat of severe weather is over northern Missouri, however there is a threat for severe weather in the Parkland. He says the risk of severe weather will most likely move in between 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and move out between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Heavy rain is expected with these storms, with strong winds of 60 m.p.h. plus, and up to golf ball size hail.

There is still uncertainty with how much energy thunderstorms will have this afternoon. The early afternoon thunderstorms will have energy and from different sources, and these are expected to become severe. However, the amount of energy will impact how severe they become. There is uncertainty whether thunderstorms will be able to redevelop this afternoon because forcing needed for development may be too weak. If they do develop, they will be moving into a favorable environment for intensification.
