Suspect in Custody after Standoff

(Iron Mountain Lake, MO) A man from Iron Mountain Lake, 45 year old Robert W. Taylor, is in custody, without bond, at the St. Francois County Jail after he is alleged to have fired shots at St. Francois County Deputies as they were investigating a hit and run traffic accident in the lake development Wednesday evening. According to a press release from Captain Greg Armstrong Sheriff's Department Deputies arrived at a camper being used as a permanent residence on Washington street just before 5:00 PM. As they approached a camper it's occupant, Taylor, began firing shots from multiple weapons through the camper walls. Deputies sought cover and returned fire, Taylor in the arm. Initial reports indicated the possibility of young children being in the camper but those reports turned out  to be false. Phone contact was made with Taylor by a Critical Incident Negotiator with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Highway Patrol SWAT officers assembled at the scene as the negotiator continued dialogue with Taylor which lasted for more than eight hours. About 02:00 AM Thursday morning Taylor exited the camper and surrendered peacefully. He was taken into custody on multiple outstanding warrants, as well as a parole violation warrant. One St. Francois County Deputy received minor injuries during the initial gunfire exchange, and was treated at the scene.
