Washington County, Mo. (KFMO) - Area law enforcement and community members gathered Sunday to honor and remember the life of Washington County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Parsons, who was tragically killed in the line of duty on December 15, 2012.
Deputy Parsons, just 31-years-old at the time, was ambushed and fatally shot while responding to a 911 call on Nugget Road in Mineral Point around 2:10 a.m. The call involved a report of an unconscious woman.
As emergency responders placed the woman into an ambulance, her son emerged from a mobile home and fired a single shotgun blast, killing Deputy Parsons. The suspect fled into nearby woods, prompting an intense manhunt. After approximately 15 hours, he surrendered at a checkpoint set up near Mineral Point. Deputy Parsons had served with the Washington County Sheriff's Office for only two months.
Despite his brief tenure, he left a lasting impact on the community and his colleagues. He is survived by his fiancée, parents, and sibling. On this solemn day, law enforcement and the community reflect on Deputy Parsons’ service and sacrifice.
