(Jefferson City, MO) The collection, and remittance, of the so called Wayfair Tax, collected from out of state retailers when Missourians buy their products online, begins January 1st of 2023. The State Representative for the 117th District, Mike Henderson, says the measure has three benefits including helping locally owned businesses stay alive, thus creating jobs.
Currently, Missouri businesses lose sales because out of state, online retailers, are not subject to the same state sales tax laws local businesses are. The system also burdens Missouri businesses because they are required to remit sales and use taxes to other states, but out of state businesses selling to Missourians do not.
