DII St. Louis Archers stun No. 2-Mineral Area Cardinals In Overtime Monday Night in St. Louis

(St. Louis, MO) In a stunning upset on Monday, February 5th, in the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference the St Louis Community College Archers pulled off an overtime victory against the #2 NJCAA nationally ranked Mineral Area College Cardinals. The Cardinals, boasting an impressive record of 23-1, using unyielding defensive efforts and a high octane offense throughout the season thus far, were handed their first defeat with a final overtime score of 63-59 at the hands of the resilient Archers, who improved to 16-8.

College of Charleston Cougars future commit and current MAC Cardinals guard Amarion Dickerson tallied 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocks in the loss. Additionally, Josh Meo of the MAC Cardinals contributed 12 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds, while Preston Turner made a notable impact off the bench with 16 points and a rebound.

Mineral Area College experienced an off night, shooting 35.5% from the field and 25.7% from beyond the arc, significantly lower than their season averages of 46% and 37%, respectively. Despite their stellar record, the Cardinals couldn't maintain their usual shooting efficiency, allowing the Archers to capitalize on their performance.

While both teams compete in the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC), the upset did not alter the Cardinals' standings in Region play. With a two-game lead over Moberly, the loss did not jeopardize their position in the region standings, positioning them favorably to host the finals of the championship tournament in the coming weeks.
