Potosi Lady Trojans Remain Undefeated in Conference After Thrilling Thursday Victory Over Farmington Knights

(Farmington, MO) It was a team effort for the Potosi Lady Trojans, who remain undefeated in conference play, as they beat the Farmington Knights, 22-25, 25-21, 27-25, 25-23.

The match featured 34 total ties and 17 lead changes.

In the opening set, Farmington would use a pair of four point rallies to take two separate leads away from Potosi. The first run concluded with a Knights lead of 7-4 and they’d carry the lead to 9-6 before the Lady Trojans used a 7-1 spurt to retake the advantage 13-10.

The later of the two Farmington runs came deep into the opening set and the Knights would gain a 22-20 lead and not trail the rest of the set.

Set two began 5-1 Potosi but a Knights push at the midway point resulted in ties at nearly every points from 13-13 to 20-20. The Lady Trojans rattled off five of the final six points to even the match up at a set each.

Both teams didn’t give an inch opening the third set. There were seven ties within the first 22 total points. Farmington gained the edge late at 19-17 before Potosi used a five point spurt, the second time they’d peace together a run this length, to take the lead 22-19.

Farmington fought back and sent the match to extra points.

With Eden Robart on the serve line, a sharp serve was not returned by the Knights and Potosi gained a set advantage heading into an important fourth set.

Two points into Set four, Ava Robart attempted a line-shot attack on the left side of the net but came down awkwardly and fell to the floor. She would not play again in the match.

Adalynn Gibson replaced Ava Robart and helped settle the Potosi players. The Lady Trojans again rallied at the midway point with a 7-2 run to take the lead at 18-14.

But the Knights weren’t done as they’d score four straight points to tie the fourth set at 21-21. Potosi closed the set with four of the final six points to win the match.

Ava Robart led the Lady Trojans with 24 kills, and 18 digs despite not playing a majority of the final set. Eden Robart had 22 kills, nine digs, and five aces. Carsyn Yount added 37 assists. Zoey Gerwitz paced Farmington scorers with 12 kills, an ace, and four blocks. Cheyenne Strohkirch added 13 kills.

Potosi (15-3-1, 3-0) will play DeSoto Monday and Ste. Genevieve Tuesday, while Farmington (14-6-0, 1-2) will participate in the Perryville Tournament Saturday.
